Splash!
The Poddle’s first edition, ‘Long Way Around’, has been launched!
And what a launch it was. Stout, brownies and vanillekipferl warmed us in the snug surroundings of Commonplace Studios. Guests were hastened inside, away from the rain and cold, and a full night of chats and music ensued. So many of our guests, friends and family gave us invaluable help through the last few weeks, it felt like everyone was launching this book together rather than Helene and I being alone at the helm.
We would like to say a very special thank you to our amazing contributors who were able to make it along: check out the Poddle to read and see the work of Kristina McElroy, Liubov Kadyrova, Graham Tugwell and Wayne Feeney (thanks for the delicious cookies, Wayne!), as well as Haris Adhikari, Maria Boavida, Adi Hollander, Kim Jin-Kyoung, Mel Milne, Cormac Ó Callanáin, Jamie O’Connell, Tracey S. Rosenberg, Kevin Simmonds and Alex Synge. We also very much appreciate the invaluable help of our Associated Poetry Editors, Gillian Groszewski and Jessica Monk.
Thank you, as well, to our very helpful photograhers, Riana and Eoin, our festive sommelier, Maria, and thank you to Grethe for all of her untiring support over the last few weeks. Adam also provided essential shopping services and Seb and Fred made excellent ushers. There would not have been mulled wine without Pierce’s help and Emma ensured the tunes of the evening were heard all over the envious, bubbling Liffey. Thank you, everyone!
We will be arranging PayPal in the next couple of days to facilitate online purchases of the Poddle’s ‘Long Way Around’. The book costs €16 plus postage and more details of this will follow soon. Until then, please enjoy some photos from the night which will be uploaded here shortly!

We’re almost there! Our first edition, ‘Long Way Around’ is ready to launch and we will be busying ourselves in Commonplace Studios tomorrow with the final preparations. We hope you can make it! Come early to get your copy of this limited edition, hand-printed book, as there are only 110 copies! The Poddle’s ‘Long Way Around’ will be on sale for €16 from 20:00 onwards.
This is Commonplace Studios, the venue of our launch this Saturday! It is a Georgian building, complete with a sloping staircase. If you are coming, it’s a tricky little place to spot, but there is a travel agents and an EFL school right beside it.
Some elves came around yesterday and helped to fold many a page. We put the limbs together today and started to stitch at sundown. Ruth’s finger has three holes in it now.
The blue wash of ink has ebbed away. Printing complete!
But the pages still flap like sails on a line.
Tonight, though, we will drink rum!
